The first appointment generally last up to 60mins to allow us to listen to your complaint and ask focussed questions about your general health and medical history as sometimes this can predispose to many presenting problems. This will then be examined by asking you to perform certain structured movements before applying other orthopaedic and neurological tests if needed. Osteopathic examination uses palpation (a developed sense of gentle touch) in order to better understand the areas of pain and stresses.
We will then discuss the most likely diagnosis, causes and agree on a treatment plan. During your first consultation we'll discuss any health-related issues and concerns.
Your case notes are highly confidential and this session provides the opportunity to discuss your expectations and answer any questions that you may have.
Osteopathy is a form of gentle hands on therapy that aims to encourage self healing through a range of detailed examinations and appropriate therapeutic techniques. This can include forms of massage, mobilisation, manipulation and exercise techniques in order to restore good health and function of joints and muscles.
We advise patients to wear loose and comfortable clothing such as shorts/thin vest tops however occasionally we may request one to undress to underwear if this will benefit the examination process. If patient prefer to wear thin clothing this is still acceptable and would be happy to accommodate one chaperone if necessary. Please notify us if this is the case.
The consultation and examination process should last 20-25mins and treatment is given for the remainder of the session. The number of sessions necessary will be discussed according to the diagnosis given, as well as any lifestyle advice and exercises that may be beneficial to you. This can further reviewed as your treatment progresses.
